The Play Company Performance

In July 2021, we hosted The Play Company’s fifth installment of writer and director William Burke's IS IT SUPPOSED TO LAST? At a time when our isolation and uncertain futures amplify the need to care for ourselves and try to care for others, the series explored the question "What happens when the nurturers are unable to nurture the people who need them?"

For the first time, the series’ final performance allowed for an in-person audience to experience the work. Carroll Hall was thrilled to host this live performance.

IS IT SUPPOSED TO LAST? is a meditation on when the fun gets spoiled and the nurturing gets toxic. Writer, director, actor William Burke wrapped himself in streamers and asked "What happens when we can't take care of you?"

The Play Company is an Obie Award-winning Off Broadway nonprofit theatre that commissions, develops and produces new plays, from the U.S. and around the world, to create contemporary theatre that reflects and responds to both our New York City home and today’s interconnected world. They support ambition and experimentation in both form and content. They champion new and marginalized voices to expand the repertoire of artists represented on U.S. stages. They commit to affordable access and collaborative community engagement, welcoming inclusive audiences to join them in exploring the meaning of our time through live theatre experiences. Bea Rue

Freelance Web & Graphic Designer

Recently I began taking inventory of my life, recognizing the shifts I could make to lessen my personal consumption and impact. Since we spend a quarter of our lives working, that was certainly an area demanding attention. So I left retail and begin my career freelancing for small businesses whose higher purpose transcends profit.

I believe in employing my skills and energy to empower others working to create positive change in our world. I support too-swamped entrepreneurs by breathing life into their brands and websites, allowing them to focus on the important work at hand. At the same time, I get to nurture my own entrepreneurial spirit while being creative and building truly meaningful relationships throughout my community.

I strive to inform, delight and inspire by balancing content with design. I consider the details without losing sight of the big picture. I aim to see around corners while staying focused on the moment. I'm self directed but have over a decade of experience successfully working with teams. And while I've surely got bills to pay, I know it's my social responsibility to be selective about where I put my energy.
